Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa

The 190 visa is a state-sponsored visa and falls under the category of skilled migration.

Once an applicant receives permanent residency (PR) through the 190 visa, they are required to enter the sponsoring state within a specified period and reside in that state for two years. There are no restrictions on work or travel during this period. After two years, the visa holder is free to move and live in any other state.

190 visa requirements:

The nominated occupation must be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List(MLTSSL)和 Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) published by the Department of Home Affairs.

2. The applicant needs to meet the points requirement for skilled migration, which is a minimum of 65 points to be eligible for the Expression of Interest (EOI) system. If the applicant already has 60 points, they can apply for the 190 visa, which provides an additional 5 points to meet the requirement of 65 points.

3. The applicant must meet the specific requirements and conditions of the state they are seeking sponsorship from. For example, in the field of accounting:

1) If the occupation is listed on the New South Wales (NSW) state sponsorship list but not on the Victoria (VIC) state sponsorship list, the applicant can only apply for NSW sponsorship.
2) If the occupation appears on the NSW sponsorship list today but is removed the next day, the applicant cannot apply for sponsorship from that state.
3) If the occupation is listed on the NSW sponsorship list but requires additional conditions, such as achieving an IELTS score of 7 or having a work intention letter or contract from an NSW company for at least one year, the applicant must meet those specific conditions to apply.

4. To apply for a state-sponsored visa, the applicant must first submit an EOI to the Department of Home Affairs and apply for state sponsorship to the relevant state government. Once the state sponsorship is approved and an invitation is received, the applicant can then submit a visa application to the Department of Home Affairs. Some states may also require payment of an application fee for state sponsorship.

State sponsorship policies are subject to adjustments every July, and some states may revise their sponsorship lists within a few months. Additionally, each state tends to prioritize sponsoring their own international students, providing them with more opportunities to stay in that particular state. International students can use this information as a reference to plan their study abroad accordingly.
