TRA (Trade Recognition Australia) mainly evaluates skilled jobs in Australia, that is, the occupations of blue-collar workers in a broad sense. According to the education, nationality and work experience of the assessment object, TRA has opened up 4 different ways to better meet the needs of applicants: Job Ready Program, 457 Skills Assessment, Offshore Skills Assessment, Migration Skills Assessment.

1、Job Ready Program（JRP）

JRP is specially set up for qualified Australian graduates to apply for 485 visa and PR. It is a 4-step skills assessment project based on actual employment and work.

Step 1 – Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA)

Applicants can apply for this step when they have obtained a course completion letter and an IELTS score of 4 or above 6, and have worked or practiced for 360 hours. After getting the results of Step 1, applicants who do not meet the PR requirements can apply for a 485 visa and continue to accumulate immigration points. Applicants holding British, American, Canadian, New Zealand, and Irish passports do not need IELTS scores.

The application fee is AUD300, and the processing cycle is 30 working days.

Step 2 – Job Ready Employment (JRE)

After the first step is passed, the applicant can register the current workplace with TRA within 4 months of the end of the student visa and enter the stage of immigration career assessment. In most cases, applicants at this stage of TRA’s evaluation will hold 485 visas. Whether other types of visas can be operated needs to call TRA for verification. If within 30 days of the applicant’s online application, TRA can receive all relevant documents of the application, then the start time of the second step is the online submission date of the application.

Applicants need to have been in the same occupation for at least 12 months from this date. It is possible to work for different employers, but these employers must all be registered with TRA. The work of contract workers can be recognized by TRA. Every month, applicants must fill in a daily or weekly work log to show that they are applying the skills they have learned to their daily work. They need to describe the job responsibilities and content in detail, and the employer needs to sign for certification.

If the applicant reaches 6 months in the second step, and has worked 863 hours with pay at the same employer, fills in the work log on a monthly basis and has the employer’s certificate, the applicant can submit the supporting documents to the review staff of TRA. After the reviewer approves the applicant’s qualifications, the application for the third step of review can begin.

Application fee AUD500, processing cycle 30 working days

Step 3 – Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA)

In the third step, TRA will contact the staff of its certified training institutions to go to the applicant’s workplace for on-site assessment. If the applicant needs to temporarily reschedule due to illness, the TRA must be notified immediately; if there is no prior notice or no reasonable reason to accept the audit as scheduled, the applicant needs to pay all travel expenses of the staff. If you fail the on-site assessment for the first time, you can apply for a reconsideration for free or apply for a second assessment for a fee. There are only 2 chances to apply for this step.

The application fee is AUD2000, and the processing period is 30 working days.

Step 4 – Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA)

If you are lucky enough to pass the first three steps, and work for more than 12 months, the paid working time is not less than 1725 hours, and complete the 12-month work log, the applicant can submit all the proof documents accumulated in the first three steps and enter the final evaluation stage. Finally, the applicant will receive TRA’s vocational assessment results, which means that they have met the vocational assessment requirements for immigration applications. If you do not pass the evaluation, you can submit a reconsideration within 30 working days after receiving the final result.

The application fee is AUD150, and the processing period is 30 working days.

This assessment is specifically for applicants who want to apply for a 457 visa, hold a passport from a specific country, and are in a specific occupation.

Specific countries include:Brazil, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Fiji, India, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.

Specific occupations include: Auto Electrician, Auto Mechanic, Diesel Auto Mechanic, Motorcycle Mechanic, Small Engine Mechanic, Sheet Metal Worker, Metal Fitter, Metal Mechanic (Class A), Bonder, Welder (Class A), Fitter, Fitters and turners, assembly welders, metal fitters and repairers, toolmakers, panel beaters, body painters, carpenters and joiners, carpenters, joiners, furniture carpenters, electricians (general), electricians (special classes), Electrical wiringman, cable operator, baker, pastry chef, cook, cook, driller

Applicants with an Australian degree can directly submit proof of their education and work experience, and will be interviewed and audited by relevant agencies; applicants without an Australian degree need to meet the full-time work requirements of more than 3 years, and have at least one job in the past 3 years 12 months full-time paid record before applying.

After the assessment, applicants for most occupations will receive a skilled immigration assessment letter, which can not only apply for a 457 visa, but also work in Australia with this letter. For the occupations of air-conditioning and refrigeration technicians, power distribution industry technicians, general electricians, special-class electricians and plumbers, after the assessment is completed, the overseas technical skills record – Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) is obtained. With this record, you can apply for a visa and apply for a temporary industry work permit in Australia, but if you want to get a complete permit, you need to have further work records in Australia.

This assessment does not require IELTS scores, the application fee is AUD1800-2600, and the processing cycle is 7 weeks.

3、Offshore Skills Assessment

This assessment is for applicants who want to apply for occupational assessments other than 485 visas and 457 visas. It only assesses the specific vocational skills of passport holders from specific countries.

Compared with the 457 skills assessment, specific countries have increased: Iran, Ireland, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Arabia, the United Kingdom, Vietnam; specific occupations have increased: air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, brickwork, electronic equipment mechanics, hairdressers, plumbers ( ordinary).

Except for the 13-week processing period, the rest are consistent with the 457 Skills Assessment content.

4、Migration Skills Assessment

The immigration skills assessment is specially set up for applicants other than the previous 3 assessment types.

Applicants need to provide an Australian degree or an equivalent overseas degree, meet the requirements of full-time paid work for more than 3 years, and have at least 12 months of full-time paid work in the past 3 years before applying. Applicants are required to submit proof of relevant academic qualifications and work experience.

Generally speaking, the academic qualifications provided by the applicant only need to meet the standards of the AQF3 certificate, except for the following occupations:

Need to meet the level above the AQF2 certificate: drainage plumber

Need to meet the level of AQF4 certificate and above: aircraft maintenance engineer (aviation electronics), aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical), aircraft maintenance engineer (structure), photography assistant (film, television, video), tailor, electrician (special category), electronic instrument Mechanics (special category), ICT customer support technicians, ICT technical support technicians (other categories), jockeys, elevator mechanics, make-up artists, opticians, optical technicians, vocational education teachers, wool graders;

Need to meet the level of AQF specialist degree or above: child care center manager, clothing sample maker, dental technician, electrical engineering technician, electronic engineering technician;

Need to meet the level of AQF advanced specialist degree or above: Dental Restoration Technician.

This evaluation does not need to provide IELTS scores, the application fee is AUD1000, and the processing cycle is 60 working days.
